WHY: To alleviate Hunger in Montgomery County, MD!

From November 16th to 20th, Clear Impact will be hosting a food drive in the WRIT One Central Plaza office building, with donations to benefit Manna Food Center of Montgomery County. Office residents and community members are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items to Clear Impact office at 11300 Rockville Pike, Suite 1001 during the week of the drive.

Your kindness and participation means you will be helping us get one-step closer to a hunger—free Montgomery County. According to Manna, “Hunger is a complex issue, but in Montgomery County it is especially deceptive. Our county is one of the most affluent in the country, yet one in three public school students receive free or discounted school lunches – and the need doesn’t end there. Beneath the visible surface, many residents require food assistance, including seniors, those fleeing domestic crises, and the intellectually and physically disabled.” In addition, the working poor who are faced with choices between healthy meals and rent payments are of special concern…”

While Manna will accept most non-perishable items, we encourage you to keep “healthy” in mind when making your donations. A list of preferred items can be found at Manna Food Center’s website here: http://www.mannafood.org/give-food/manna-food-center-wish-list/. Items high on Manna’s wish-list include low sodium canned veggies, canned fruit, canned lean meats like tuna and chicken, 100% whole-grain products, vegetable oils, and tea and coffee. Please also make sure to check the expiration date on products before donating!

Please help Clear Impact and Manna Food Center reach the legacy of a hunger—free Montgomery County by donating to our food drive! We thank you in advance for your participation!

About Manna Food Center:

Manna Food Center logo

Manna Food Center’s singular mission is to eliminate hunger in Montgomery County, Maryland. Through food distribution, education and advocacy, we are making strides on behalf of more than 78,000 county residents who experience hunger and food insecurity. Since 1983, Manna has worked to fight hunger, feed hope and transition recipients from a place of scarcity to prosperity. The community was present at the creation of Manna coming together to make sure that those experiencing hunger had a place to turn.

Today, the impact of our work is clear. Manna stands as the premier food bank of Montgomery County, providing food to 40,000 individuals each year and helping distribute rescued food to soup kitchens, food pantries and emergency shelters county-wide. Nearly every social service organization in Montgomery County relies on Manna to provide food to their clients, and we are honored to play our part in the strong social safety net.  Also operating as a food pantry, Manna directly reaches into the community through a network of distribution sites in every quadrant of the county.
