Measure and Improve DEI in Your Organization
What does creating Measurable Equity (ME) actually look like? ME is closing the gap on a disparity for a subpopulation at the community or programmatic level, while also working to improve outcomes for all. ME can also be an improvement on a trend specific to the advancement of diversity, equity, or inclusion within individual organizations.
Equity can and, arguably, should begin at home. This guide, the first of many (and a work in progress), proposes internal measures of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion as tools for enhancing equity in social sector organizations. It must be noted at the outset that measures are notoriously subject to misuse in organizations. This guide, therefore, also addresses appropriate uses and identifies inappropriate misuses (in the form of challenges), of the proposed measures of equity.
