Following the hosting of the first ever and hugely successful three day Results Based Accountability (RBA) Africa Summit at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Johannesburg from 08 to 10 October 2014 the overwhelming consensus from those participating was that the Summit should be the first of many RBA engagements. With more than 100 participants attending the Summit from governments, NGOs, consulting firms, charities, and more, representing more than 10 different counties, it is evident that there is now a clear desire to learn more about how to successfully implement RBA practices into an organisation.
In order to capitalise on the momentum built up during the Summit the decision was taken to regularly host RBA Community of Practice groups involving different stakeholders. The first such RBA Community of Practice group was held on Friday 14 November 2014 at the Africlassic River Lodge in Rivonia, Johannesburg. Hosted by Mrs. Laureen Rwatirera, of the training and management consulting firm Accelerate Performance, it proved to be a great opportunity to share opinions and experiences of the Summit, discuss and refresh on what was presented there by Mr. Mark Friedman and others, to engage with individuals and organisations hoping to implement RBA, and to learn more about RBA and how to successfully implement it. Attended by a small group of only six people, the platform was ideal for learning about the nature of each individual’s organisation, different challenges and obstacles faced and how to overcome these using the RBA methodology and to air and discuss any questions. A mutual decision was taken that such Community of Practice group meetings are worthwhile and useful and should be repeated on a regular basis every couple of months.
