Submission Title: Reduce Disparity in UCare Membership Black and American Indian Pregnancy Health
Submission Overview: Based on preliminary data from 2011-2017, the maternal mortality rate for non-Hispanic Black people is 2.3 times higher when compared to white people. The American Indian maternal mortality rate is approximately 4 times higher than that for white people. Culturally congruent maternal health workers and investments in anti-racism and implicit bias training for providers, along with investments in social drivers of health, are sample strategies that can work. Potential partners to collaborate in improving maternal health for these subpopulations include UCare as a health plan, community-based organizations, state legislators and other non-profits.
