Understanding the Scorecard Methodology
There are many performance management methodologies out there. This is why no two performance management systems are the same. Each system is usually built using a specific methodology.
Understanding the methodology of the Clear Impact Scorecard may help you get the most out of your subscription and get quicker results. While it’s not necessary to study this framework to use Scorecard effectively, it may help boost your results. However, Scorecard can be customized to use any language or methodologies you already use.
Clear impact Scorecard was built using the ideas of Results-Based Accountability™ (RBA). RBA is a simple framework to understand and is especially effective for public sector organizations. It gets you from talk-to-action quickly so that you can spend more time on what matters to you.
Here are the basic ideas of RBA:
There are two kinds of accountability – Population and Performance.
-
- Population Accountability is the accountability held by many partners for the wellbeing of an entire population.
- “Results” are simple statements describing conditions of wellbeing for a population like “all children in our state are healthy.” Results are used to guide our work at the population level.
- “Indicators” are metrics like “obesity rate” or “crime rate” that measure the achievement of Results.
- Performance Accountability is the accountability held by managers and staff for the performance of an organization, program, and/or service-system.
- Performance Accountability is measured using “Performance Measures.” The most important Performance Measures tell us whether anyone is better off as a result of our efforts.
- Population Accountability is the accountability held by many partners for the wellbeing of an entire population.
The Turn-the-Curve process is a simple process for improving each of your Performance Measures and Indicators.
It doesn’t really matter what terms you use you to label the above ideas (eg. saying “goal” instead of “result”), as long as you understand that each idea is important and distinct.
While a deeper dive into the framework isn’t necessary, it may be beneficial for your performance improvement efforts as a whole. You can learn more about Results-Based Accountability™ here. Just remember, you don’t have to use RBA if you don’t want to. It’s easy to crosswalk the system to the methodology, language, and organization that you already use. -
Embed your Scorecard.
The Scorecard Embed feature is a great way to share your work. You can embed your Scorecard on your organization’s website or share a link to your live data. Check out this example of an embedded Scorecard. To embed your Scorecard, you must enable embedding first. Navigate to your Scorecard, click “Edit” in the top right corner of the screen, then switch on “Enable Embed.”
-
Turn on your Accountability Score.
With the Accountability Score feature, you can track how effectively you are using your Scorecards and how well your measures are doing. Several factors determine your Accountability Acore, including the status of your notes and how many of your measures are trending in the right direction. You can learn more about the Accountability Score here.
