Social Sector Hero – How Government and Philanthropy Can Fund for Impact, by Clear Impact CEO Adam Luecking, is hitting virtual bookshelves this July!

In Social Sector Hero, Luecking introduces eight core strategies to help government agencies, philanthropic organizations, and grantees create world-class performance reporting systems in significantly less time. The book also demonstrates how funders can use those systems to empower their grantees without adding unnecessary burden.

Luecking’s book will officially launch on Tuesday, July 26th, 2022 with a Virtual Book Launch and Roundtable Discussion event, hosted by Luecking and colleagues, Dr. JaNay Queen Nazaire (Senior Advisor at PSG Equity) and Jason Green (Former Special Assistant to the President). Anyone interested in attending the launch event can sign up at ClearImpact.com/Events.

“I wrote this book because I wanted to share the industry-leading strategies Clear Impact has developed with clients and colleagues over the past 15 years working with governments and funders worldwide. I hope to inspire and empower public sector leaders to become ‘Social Sector Heroes’ and accelerate their journeys to measurable impact. I am most excited for readers to learn from my book’s 16 ‘hero’s journey spotlights’ that feature stories about real efforts to create measurable improvements for children, families, and communities,” says Luecking.

Far from being dry and theoretical, Social Sector Hero is a highly practical, hands-on system that has transformed hundreds of agencies around the world. Using the book’s battle-tested strategies, anyone in the public sector can conquer their fear of data, overcome institutional challenges, and seize their ‘hero’s sword’ to lead their team to success.

Social Sector Hero will guide readers through eight proven strategies, with two case studies per strategy, to help them maximize the impact of their social investments. These strategies include:

  1. How to create and align with a larger common agenda
  2. How to sustain alignment with a common agenda
  3. How to easily get started with performance measures
  4. How and why to disaggregate data for accurate analysis
  5. How and why to develop the story behind the data for meaningful analysis
  6. How to implement consistent yet flexible grantmaking and reporting processes
  7. How to use the data and corresponding story to initiate meaningful dialogue and action
  8. How and why to share performance data, action plans, and reports publicly

“Social Sector Hero is a valuable manual, with easy-to-follow instructions on making the impact everyone in our sector dreams of making. As Adam states in Chapter Two, “No one entity can do this work in isolation.” It takes all of us, and Adam’s book helps light and direct a path forward. The book is a rich reminder that we can all be heroes,” says Kristin Hartley, Director of Organizational Impact, Child & Family Service, Hawai’i.

While Luecking’s tips, recommendations, and stories are seriously valuable, Social Sector Hero isn’t all serious business! Along with the educational material, Luecking’s book weaves in comical personal anecdotes, entertaining tales, and amusing comparisons to entertain readers and keep them engaged and interested throughout their readers’ journeys.

Attendees of the Virtual Book Launch and Roundtable Discussion will have the opportunity to download the book for free following the event. They will also learn about and have the chance to sign up to be part of the Social Sector Hero Global Book Tour. This Global Book Tour will consist of a series of events, virtual and in-person, that organizations can sign up to host. During the events, Luecking will join to share tips and stories from his book to inspire readership and adoption of what is shared.

When asked to address potential readers with a final note of encouragement, Luecking shared, “If you’re a funder and you’re overwhelmed with data, wasting time with duplication of efforts, struggling to get buy-in, or aren’t sure how to best measure your and your grantees’ impact, this book is for you. Social Sector Hero will help you overcome the challenges preventing you from understanding and maximizing the impact of your funding. You’ll learn how to ensure your investments generate results that improve the lives of the people you serve through simple, repeatable systems.”
